The opportunity for students to take part this year in the career shadowing program offered in Rockwood is soon ending. The program gives juniors the chance shadow a professional in one of their fields of interest.
The applications are available for pick up at the main office, guidance office, or from Lafayette’s career shadowing coordinator Amy Shelton’s office in Room 128-A. The applications are due Sept. 17, and are to be turned in to the PIE facilitator, Amy Shelton’s, office.
While students may still turn in forms after Sept. 17, they will not be guaranteed a place in the program.
Career shadowing gives students several chances to experience career fields of interest.
“The major benefit of taking part in career shadowing is experience. The ability to experience a career first hand will prove beneficial as you begin formulating your career path,” Rockwood’s Career Shadowing Facilitator Jody Waller said.
She believes the program will allow students to “see this as truly what you want to do in life or you may see this career is not something you wish to pursue.”
Waller also had some tips for those participating in the program, or considering it. “The biggest suggestion from the business partner is students need to ask more questions. Explore the company website prior to shadowing so you can ask well informed questions. Be on time, dress appropriately and remember you are responsible for your own transportation,” she said.
