Fresh off of a knee surgery, FACS teacher Erin Hagglund went to the 1999 Eureka High School turnabout dance during her freshman year.
“I really wanted to go to the dance and my mom said I could go if I wore my tennis shoes,” she said.
Hagglund wore a simpler blue department store dress.
“[The dress] came from either Dillard’s or Macy’s because that was the only option when we were going to dances. My budget was like 50 dollars,” Hagglund said.
Trendy music and fashion from the late 90’s was abundant at the dance.
“Up-dos were really big and most of the time, girls would do it themselves. Everybody had the same hairstyle,” she said.
Hagglund did her own hair for the dance.
“I did a ponytail, then curls and then I would pin it in and it wouldn’t move for two days,” she said.
Now, Homecoming means tradition for Hagglund.
“I really like the Spirit Days and I always make it a point to participate. And even as a teacher, I think it’s really important to show school spirit and show that you belong to your school and community,” she said.
