Since his freshman year, junior Noah Schott, who plays soccer in the fall,  wanted to experience a high school sport during the spring season, so he decided to try water polo.

“My favorite thing is the amount of friends I have made from other schools and how nice everyone is to each other,” Schott said.

Outside of school water polo, Schott has played for Saint Louis Area Polo Club (SLAP).

Schott said one of the challenges he faces is his size.

“I am not a very muscular kid, so the physicality aspect is harder for me,” he said. 

Now in his third year, Schott said his favorite position to play is center because it makes him work without having time to rest.

So far this season, he has not rested much. After just 10 games, Schott leads the area in goals with 57. He has an 76% scoring percentage. Last season he scored just 23 goals total.

Head Coach James Waeckerle said some of the difference in Schott’s scoring can be attributed to the fact that he spent half of last season out with injuries. Schott was dealing with a broken wrist and fractured/sprained ankle  last season. He also said Schott worked very hard in the off season to improve his skills.

“Noah has put in a considerable work with his club team, SLAP, as well as participating in the Olympic Development Program. The work he put in during the offseason has paid off for him this year,” Waeckerle said.

In the first game of the Chicago tournament March 17, the Lancers had their first loss of the season, falling to Schaumburg, 11-10. Junior Noah Schott scored 4 in the game.
