Lafayette community reflects on the tragic day

17 years ago, 19 hijackers, four planes. 2,977 lives lost. 2,977 families’ lives changed. In less than two hours, America had witnessed one of the most heartbreaking and terrorizing attacks on our nation. The memory of this event will forever be burned into America’s history.

What’s a Lancer?

In a routine based off of the Hindu gods Krishna and Radha, sophomore Hritika Malugu and Brentwood High School freshman Meenakshi Kadungath strike a pose. Malugus favorite routine is also based off of Krishna. My favorite dance piece is probably Asainthadum which is a classical piece about how everyone is happy when Krishna is around. It’s really dynamic and has a lot of fun steps, Malugu said.

On April 8, during the eclipse, librarians, Jane Lingafelter and Robin Van Iwaarden, look at the sun using solar viewers, while on the field. Students and staff spent time on the field during the eclipse. The next partial eclipse in Missouri wont be till 2045.

At the Winter Market on Dec. 3, vendors set up booths along Foundry Way. Papa Bear Popcorn set up their booth at the beginning of the street and sold holiday themed popcorn along with some of their best selling flavors including movie butter and caramel popcorn.

A different view

Environmentalistic is a new store at the St. Louis Premium Outlets. According to their website, their mission is to preserve the natural wonders and stunning beauty of the Planet Earth, [and] to become major contributors to environmental awareness. One of their mottos for the store is The Earth is in our hands.

Language arts teacher Jenny Ingram stands in her classroom holding her Good Vibes Only sign. In June 2021 Ingram learned that her Breast Cancer resurfaced as Stage Four. She has since made an effort to maintain a positive perspective.

More than a diagnosis

drama teacher Natasha Fischer visited her relatives in Puerto Rico in May of 2021. Fischer has three children and takes them to Puerto Rico as often as she can to embrace them in the culture. “They actually play a game in my house called going to Puerto Rico where they pack a bag and get on an airplane and go and eat rice and beans,” Fischer said
