Out & About: Snow Factory
Over the summer there has been widespread news about an ice cream shop named Snow Factory. Although, it seems like a typical ice cream place, there is something unique about how they create it.
Instead of just scooping the ice cream for you, they use natural ingredients and a cream base to make it from scratch right in front of you. All the ingredients are placed on a very cold surface so it can harden into ice cream. After they are done mixing ingredients together, they begin to flatten out the ice cream and roll it into five different pieces.
As you order, you get to pick from a variety of toppings and pick three at most before extra charge.
Due to seeing Snow Factory all over social media, I wanted to see if it was really worth the money.
The one I went to is located in Des Peres, as part of the West County Mall, but the original location is on Delmar Blvd., better known as The Loop, in St. Louis. Also another location is coming soon to the Downtown St Louis area.
As I walked in, there was a giant wall with sticky notes posted all over it. These notes consumed of a variety of different messages and names from bottom to top. There was also a clear view of the workers, so you got to watch the workers make the ice cream.
The menu had a whole variety of different kind of ice cream flavors you can choose from. I ordered the Strawberry Swirl and chose jelly bean, sprinkles and strawberry syrup as my three toppings. The total came to about $8 without tax.
Although the wait was fairly long for getting ice cream, there was enough entertainment as you watched each dish being made.
When I got my ice cream, the appearance was amazing and all I hoped for was it to taste as good as it looked. From the first bite, I was mesmerized on how great the taste and texture was.
All I kept thinking on why I didn’t go to Snow Factory sooner.
In the end, it was definitely worth the relatively high price and long wait, and I have already planned out my order for next time.
