When trying to find a table to sit at for lunch, there are certainly challenges that arise when figuring out your spot for the year. The cafeteria is a large place, with lots of room to find a niche for you and your crowd.
When looking for a spot, however, some controversy and confusion has come from students surrounding whether or not the are allowed to sit in the picnic tables near the Flex Hallway to eat.
Principal John Shaughnessy cleared up the situation by revealing that students are, in fact, allowed to sit at the picnic tables.
“We try to limit the number of students sitting there due to the noise,” Shaughnessy said.
This is a concern for noise because the tables are located near the classrooms in the social studies hall and the Flex classrooms.
However, in an email that the staff received around the beginning of the semester, it was said that due to the mess and noise, no one would be able to sit there.
“No one is allowed to sit here until the situation is resolved. There are still messes here. I become a little more lenient if you’re quiet, and there’s no class in the Flex Room, but if there’s a class in there, I tell people they gotta go,” Meg O’Connell, hall monitor, said.
Depending on the day, students will be able to see others sitting in these tables or possibly see them empty. The policy in place seems to be as long as you eat lunch quietly, respectfully and relatively neatly, eating at these tables should be fine.
However, if your you’re being loud and making a mess, don’t be surprised if asked to leave mid way through your turkey sandwich.
