A Look Back: Blood Drive in ’79
January 25, 2016
Student Council (STUCO) has held their annual American Red Cross Blood Drive for decades. Last year, 93 units of blood were collected. A total of 145 people signed up to donate. 13 were turned away for various complications, while the others didn’t show up.
Looking back 37 years earlier, STUCO’s Blood Drive held on Feb. 12, 1979 collected 69 pints of blood from the 69 students and teachers that participated.
Though the numbers of students participating has fluctuated throughout the years, the goal of STUCO’s Blood Drive has not.
Each pint of blood donated potentially has the power to save three adult lives or six children lives.
This year’s blood drive is being held Jan. 29. Participants must be at least 16 years old and over 105 pounds.
