The last time I… ate ice cream

September 9, 2014
The last time senior Jenna Ludwig ate ice cream marked a continuation of a long standing family tradition.
On September 1, Ludwig and her family commuted one and half hours to Pittsfield, IL to visit her grandparents. While they were together, her family went to Dairy Ripple, a local ice cream shop.
“We always go. Their ice cream is really big and it’s like a buck. It’s one of those little small town ice cream places,” Ludwig said.
After numerous trips, Ludwig has perfected her order.
“They always have vanilla and then they vary which flavor they have each day. I either get a twist of vanilla and whatever the other flavor is like chocolate or strawberry…or I get a hot fudge sundae,” Ludwig said.
Ice cream isn’t the only sweet treat for Ludwig; the journey allows Ludwig to spend valuable time with her family.
“It’s kind of nice that every time we go I can always look forward to [seeing my grandparents]. The rest of the family that lives there always comes with us like my grandparents do,” Ludwig said.
One thing’s for certain-Sept.1 may have been the last time Ludwig ate ice cream, but it won’t be the last of this family custom.

[Families] actually having the opportunity to have their kids on the field with us is the most important aspect,” Ben Lundt said.](https://lancerfeed.press/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/IMG_6823-1200x800.jpg)
