Club Spotlight: Undefined Improv Group makes up rules as they go
March 24, 2014
Calling all young thespians! New this year to Lafayette is Undefined, an improv group coordinated by senior students and Natasha Toro, theatre teacher.
The club held auditions for membership early first semester.
“We held the audition, and kids came in and played improv games and observed how people felt and acted when working with others,” Toro said. “This is how we decided who would be on the team.”
There are around 15 members of Undefined this year, representing all four grade levels.
Undefined meets Monday through Thursday after school for an hour and a half.
The team will compete at the International Thespian Society every year. This year, Undefined held two performances, one each semester. Next year, they hope to up that to one each quarter.
On the side, the team casually holds “Improvathons” as a fun team-bonding activity. Undefined travels to Parkway South to attend one of their performances, and then spend the night at a team member’s house and play improv games until the crack of dawn.
Improvisational comedy is nothing new to Lafayette. Thursday Night Live (TNL) has been held for many years, in which students put on a comedy show similar to Saturday Night Live with just three days of rehearsal. This year, Undefined will be taking over TNL themselves.
Undefined’s next improv show is this Thursday, March 27 in the theatre at 4:00 (cost in $3) and 7:00 (cost is $5) p.m. The theme of this show is “Kiss Me I’m Undefined,” and proceeds from the group’s first show this year were donated to Autism Speaks.

Auditions for next year’s troupe will be held during the 2014-2015 school year.
