Through These Halls: Biondo races toward his goals
Wake up. Workout. Go to school. Run. Repeat
For senior Frankie Biondo, this ridiculous order of activities is reality.
In the past, Biondo has run on Lafayette’s boys cross country team. However, this year Biondo left the team in order to train on his own and open up more time for schoolwork.
“I really just wanted to focus on improving my schoolwork, so I decided I just wanted to get home as soon as possible. I just go out and run and get done early,” Biondo said.
Biondo’s training regimen is not for the faint-hearted.
“In the morning I work out and do core stuff. In the afternoon I run, normally about 5 miles and I get back before the team starts so I talk to them a lot. At night I go to the YMCA (Y) and just lift weights,” Biondo said.
Why all the work?
“I’m trying to stay in shape for track. I want to get better at track for the mile and 800 meter [races] because I feel like that’s what I’m best at, the shorter stuff,” Biondo said.
Biondo’s commitment has not faltered since the start of the school year.
“I run every day. If I can’t run outside, I just go to the Y and run. I’ve run every day since school started,” Biondo said.
For Biondo, it’s a sure bet that running will be part of his future.
“I want to try and run in college but if I don’t, I’ll probably just run a club team,” Biondo said.
With his dedication, there’s no doubt that Biondo will be up and running for a while longer.
