Diversity Club, Be the Change and Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA) have been clubs at Lafayette founded to act as a support group for students from several different walks of life.
Whether you are black, white, Jewish or Catholic, there has always been a club that has the same beliefs and ideals as you.
But where did that leave members of the Lesbian Gay Bisexual Transgender (LGBT) community?
Thus the Gay Straight Alliance (GSA) was formed to create an atmosphere of security and acceptance within the halls of Lafayette.
The newly formed club, sponsered by Melissa Schumacher, language arts teacher, was created to act as a safe haven for students struggling with their identity in accordance to their sexuality.
“I hope that it would help kids become more confident and open the student body’s eyes to these kids being in our school,” Schumacher said.
The clubs goal is to make the Lafayette student body and LGBT students more accepting of the differences between one another and mend the gap that separates the two.
The club will meet every Monday at 3:15 in Room 156.
