With college quickly approaching, many students use high school as a time to think about what they want to pursue when they leave the halls of Lafayette.
Junior Nick Steinhauer looks forward to following his dreams of joining the Marines.
“It started when I was really young, probably around 10 years old”, he said.
The person that inspired Steinhauer to join was his Uncle who has acquired four purple hearts, a silver star and seven other metals by serving our country.
“He was always my hero”, Steinhauer said, “he was my inspiration, and he loved his job”.
He added, “Being a Marine isn’t something you would get bored with easily”
Despite the thrill, being a part of the Marines is a very dangerous job in most cases.
However, when asked if he was worried about the dangers he may face Steinhauer replied, “No, as a firefighter-paramedic marine, you have to learn to risk your life, face death”
Steinhauer plans to serve in the Marines next year, after high school is over. To prepare, he is currently a member of ROTC, participates in South Tec Firefighting and summer training.
“It’s all about honor, courage, and dignity” Steinhauer said, “you’re making history.”
