Freshman Bailey Borchers has connections. Kind of.
With her father as the new Rockwood Superintendent, Dr. Bruce Borchers, it seems as though Bailey may be subject to certain pressure from her peers during the winter season. Although, this isn’t the case.
“Because they [other students] don’t know me well, they usually don’t tease me about it. There is an occasional person who asks, but it’s not normal,” she said.
However, when snow is imminent, sometimes her friends become a bit more vocal.
“My friends tease me about it a lot. They say, ‘Hey Bailey, it’s going to snow tomorrow,’ or things related to that. When snow days don’t happen, they give me crap, but I know they only do it because we’re friends. Most of them know that the decision is not in my control,” she said.
The Borchers family moved to Wildwood from Minnesota and adjusted well.
“When we moved here, we got greeted by all of our neighbors. They are fantastic. It took a while to transition weather wise, and I’m still settling in. I miss a lot of friends, but I made a lot here too,” she said.
As for her father being the Superintendent, Bailey explained that she appreciates what her dad does for the district.
“It’s so much fun. He does work so hard so we students can have the best education and future possible. It can get annoying at times, but nothing out of hand,” she said.
And when the early morning or late evening call comes from Dr. Borchers, Bailey says she receives a little appreciation as well.
“When it is a snow day, I get lots of praise. The, “I love your Dad!” or, “thank you Dr. B!” comes up a lot,” she said.
