When most students are sleeping in and hanging out on snow days, junior Grace Nauman still gets up early. She has to go to work.
Nauman works at the Wildwood YMCA nursery, and snow days are her specialty.
In a normal week, Nauman only works Monday nights, but when a snow day is called, it is her job to come in and look after the kids who need daycare because their schools are closed.
“Because of all the snow, the YMCA didn’t even open on Tuesday, but today [Thursday] I had more kids than ever before. I had ten instead of the usual, which is about four,” Nauman said.
While it may seem like a pain, there is a definite upside to her working snow days. Nauman starts at 9 a.m. and ends a little after 4 p.m. ,making $10 per hour watching the children.
“Even though I have to get up early on our snow days, I don’t mind so much. The kids are really entertaining and the money is great. That, and I’ve had something to do while everyone was stuck inside,” she said.
