Junior J.D. Vanderzee just finished reading Battle Royaleby Koushun Takami. Though a serious and somewhat violent novel, Vanderzee appreciates its depth.
“It’s about a group of about 20-30 kids from high school who are selected by a futuristic Japanese government to take place in a battle royale, a tournament that basically places them on an island with surveillance cameras, with their own weapons. They have a week to survive by any means possible,” Vanderzee explained.
He continued, “In the end, there is usually one person left, however this book had a little bit of a twist where three or four kids escape the island and getting away from the government which is a cool thing.”
Vanderzee heard about the book from Border’s Best Pick Staff List and decided to get it about two months ago and really enjoyed the book. Quentin Tarantino, director of Inglorious Bastards, had also suggested it as one of his favorite books.
