Many students work part time at standard jobs such as grocery and apparel stores, or fast food. But, junior Abby Uphoff works somewhere unique where she can combine her passion for animals and her need to help others.
Q: Where do you work?
A: Equine Assisted Therapy.
Q: What got you interested in working there?
A: I’ve always loved horses, so when my neighbor told me about it, I got really excited and applied.
Q: What exactly do you do?
A: We help children with special needs ride horses and practice simple motor skills. My job is to lead the horses and help the children perform educational tasks.
Q: How has this impacted your life?
A: It’s amazing to see the way the children make a connection with the horses. It’s made me realize how helpful animals can be in rehabilitation and therapy. I get to experience miracles on a regular basis.
Q: Do you see this as your future career?
A: I could definitely see myself doing something like this in the future. I get to spend time with horses and help children at the same time, it’s wonderful.
