It’s late on a Saturday night (or the start of Sunday morning) and you and all your friends are starving.
Sure, you could swing through Jack in the Box or Steak n’ Shake, but wouldn’t a nice sit-down meal be the best way to reminisce or make a memorable night?
At Gingham’s, located at 15662 Manchester Rd., the kitchen and dinning room is open 24/7. Daily specials are written on a small chalk board in the waiting area and the sweet smell of crackling bacon and warm, soft pancakes floats through the entire restaurant.
Even though its midnight, Gingham’s seems to be the best place to grab a simple and delicious breakfast platter to calm your sweet tooth and growling stomach.
With a menu dedicated to a variety of eggs, pancakes, waffles, omelets and French toast it is a task in itself to decide just what to get.
For those who want a little taste of everything there is a smaller menu filled with breakfast combinations to satisfy the best of both worlds when it comes to balancing sweet pancakes or waffles with mouth watering eggs and bacon.
On my last trip, around midnight on a Sunday morning, I noticed that the special was a half (three cakes) or whole stack (five cakes) of Banana Pecan Pancakes.
After taking my seat and sifting through the menu, no item could out-do a mountain of pancakes swimming in a sea of syrup. So I decided to go with my gut and ordered a full stack.
The cakes came out close to 10 minutes after ordering. The server explained that although it may look as if no bananas are in the dish, they are baked in with the pancake.
After dumping a whole saucer of syrup on the mountain of pancakes, the first forkful revealed a hidden treasure of banana buried in the cakes. The pecans added a nice contrast to the texture of the soft pancakes and made it a circus of flavors.
These pancakes have the texture and flavor to match those of any IHOP. With each forkful a generous amount of baked in bananas and pecans the meal was worth the money, all $7 of it.
A warm atmosphere, hot food, friendly servers and reasonably priced meals make Gingham’s the ideal spot for some late night feasting.
