Boys tennis hopes to prove their strength this season
Of the seven members on the boys tennis team last season, there are only two returning varsity players. Sophomore Kevin Peng is one of the two returning Lancers, and he’s ready to lead his team to another District championship appearance after losing in the championship match last season.
“For this season, my goal for myself is to have a positive record in singles and doubles, like 7-5 or 8-4,” Peng said. “My goal for our team as a whole is to reach the District finals again and beat Marquette.”
Peng has been working hard in the offseason to prepare for his second year on the varsity team.
“I prepared for this season with many singles tournaments, and hitting at the Woodsmill Tennis Clinic three times a week,” Peng said.
Because the Lancers graduated a large amount of their team last year, they are coming into the season without many expectations from other teams, but Peng is ready to prove how strong Lafayette is.
“I am excited to see our team grow. Since we lost five seniors this year, the Varsity squad has completely new faces that I am excited to see improve. I hope we can prove everyone wrong and show that even though we may have lost five seniors we can still play very well,” Peng said.
The boys tennis team’s first match is on March 23 at 4 p.m. at Rockwood Summit.
