National Merit Semi-Finalists
Every October, high school juniors across the nation take the PSAT, a precursor to the SAT. The test can only officially be taken once during a student’s junior year and determines if students are eligible for National Merit Scholarships.
Of Lafayette’s current seniors who took the PSAT in October 2016, the following 15 qualified as National Merit semi-finalists:
- Alicja Blaszczyk
- Rohan Bohra
- Patricia Denn
- Eileen Kosola
- Joseph Lu
- Jakob Molskness
- Shruti Natarajan
- Nassim Oufattole
- Prathishtha Pitchyaiah
- Lina Qi
- Rithik Reddy
- Nathan Reed
- Anna Samsonov
- Atul Srinivasan
- Nicole Tang
After taking the test in October 2016, the students received their scores in mid-December.
In September 2017, the top-scorers were notified if they were either Commended students, who scored well but are no longer in the competition or if they were Semi-finalists and can continue on in the competition. Semifinalists are the students who scored the highest in their states.
If a student proceeds to Finalist standing in the competition, they will be notified by February 2018. Finalists must meet specific requirements, and all of the scholarship winners are selected from the Finalist list. Of the 1,600,000 students that take the PSAT, about 7,500 will receive the Merit Scholarship. Click here to read more about the PSAT and the National Merit Scholarship Program.
