Before competing in a game against Marquette on Sept. 22, the football team runs through their banner onto the field. The Lancers won the game with a final score of 28-20.

At the tail end of the season, the varsity football team looks back on a well-played year. They ended the regular season with a record of 6-3.

“Overall [the season] has been great. We have a smaller team this year, but with the hard work and practices we put in, we have gotten better throughout the season,” senior Brian Reid said.

Reid thinks his team could have finished the regular season with a better record, but he looks forward to succeeding in the playoffs.

“Hopefully we’ll make it deep into the playoffs. We could have been undefeated, in my opinion, but we just made some mistakes,” Reid said.

Head Coach Boyd Manne said the team will have to take care of the ball and play great defense to succeed in the playoffs. Overall, Manne is very pleased with the season, his team and all their progress.

“We’ve gotten better each week and our defense has played really well this season,” Manne said. “The team plays well together on the field and there are no big egos. There’s a good bond among all the players. They all just like to play and compete.”

This season was a good one for the football team, and there are hopes to continue the success into the playoffs. The team’s next game is on Friday, Oct. 27 at Eureka as they face off against the Wildcats in the second round of the playoffs.
