Engineering class sells charger savers in school store
In early March, a new item was added to the school store; however, it’s not your typical new clothing item or favorite snack. Created by senior Josh Essman for Lafayette’s Engineering Design and Development (EDD) class, “charging cable savers” are now being sold for $1 each.
These quarter-size devices are made of nylon and designed to keep phone and other wired chargers from fraying at the ends and breaking. They are 3-D printed here at Lafayette.
“The whole point of EDD is to experiment with different materials and eventually create your own product. My deadline was quickly approaching and I needed to think of something quick and easy, so I came up with this idea because chargers break so easily,” Essman said.
The charging cable savers sold-out of the school store and have since been restocked.
“About 20 more were made over the weekend, and I plan to keep restocking them until the end of the year,” Essman said.
All profits of the charger savers go to Essman.
