Boys cross country wins Sectionals, seeks to channel success at State
The Lafayette boys cross country team has had a terrific season, coming off their state qualifying season the previous year. On Saturday, Nov. 2, the boys defeated all of the competition in the Class 4 Sectional 1.
The Lancers routed the runner-up DeSmet and finished with 49 total points; 34 points ahead of DeSmet, as they finished with 15.
Lafayette had 3 runners finish in the top-ten, which is extremely impressive considering the large amount of runners participating in the competition.
Sophomore Dylan Quisenberry led the way, finishing the race in 3rd place. Quisenberry has been one of the top runners this year, as he set the season high in the 5,000 meter race with an astounding time of 15.38:50. Freshman Austin Hindman also competed well, squaring off a sufficient 2nd place to add to the Lancer’s success. Coming in 9th, sophomore Devin Meyrer has made significant improvements since the beginning of the season.
With a cross country team that is compiled of many underclassmen, both boys and girls, success is imminent for the future. For this season, the final event on their schedule is the MSHAA State XC Championships, which will take place in Jefferson City. The race is scheduled for Saturday November 9th, or this upcoming Saturday. This event will be critical in determining how each runner will finish the season and will give us all a glimpse at the potential of Lafayette’s underclassman.
