On Wednesday, Oct. 5, the Lady Lancer golf team competed at Sectionals.
Senior Claire Norfleet was the only member of the group to advance to the MSHSAA (Missouri State High School Activities Association) State Finals to be held on Oct. 16-17.
In 2009, the Lafayette girl’s golf team advanced as a team to the State Championship. However, Norfleet was unable to participate due to a separated shoulder. Last season, Norfleet missed the cut by one stroke.
This year, Norfleet shot an 89 which was the exact cutoff to qualify.
“I’m really excited to make State this year for the first time, but I wish the rest of the team could be there too,” Norfleet said.
Norfleet said this year’s competition was especially tough. “We had a really tough Sectional. If we were in any other Sectional, our whole team would have made it through.”
According to MSHSAA.org, the team shot 373 as a whole, placing sixth out of the six teams competing. Ursuline Academy placed first with a team score of 334. West Plains High school came in second with a team score of 346. Ursuline Academy and West Plains High School both advance as a team to the State Championship.
“I just hope to do my best and keep playing like I have been,” Norfleet said.
