Social Studies teacher Steve Klawiter will have his AP World History class take the digital exam this May. He said he looks forward to seeing how his students will perform on the exam. “Its been very clear theyre moving towards digital. Since the pandemic started, theyve been putting the pieces in place to go digital, Klawiter said. “I think that ultimately it’s going to be more beneficial because with systems like Canvas and Google Classroom, students are used to more digital activities and less handwriting activities.”

Rockwood School District is currently writing a curriculum for a new womens history course, which will be offered in the 2025-2026 school year. Social studies teacher Jodie Lee will teach it at LHS.

On March 13, the Presidents Forum hosted a “Meet The Candidates” event at the Rockwood School District Administrative Annex. A student from each of Rockwood’s four high schools was chosen to ask candidates three questions and more questions were asked from anonymous PTO members.

Adolescent rates of problem gambling behaviors are double that of adult rates. Cait Huble, Director of Communications at the National Council on Problem Gambling said that this increase could be caused by online games which have blurred the lines between gaming and gambling.

Sophmore Halah Almuttan started her buisness, Halah’s Sweet Treats during fall this year. Other than selling a variety of self-made goods such as cinamon rolls, bunt cakes and churros, she also takes custom orders for treats like cakes, chocolate covered strawberries and cupcakes.

New lacrosse coach seeks to maintain success of prior leadership, improve Lafayette standing
While his father Joe Wier celebrates behind him, senior Andrew Wier kneels down after winning the MSHSAA 190 pound State Title, Feb. 24. Wier finished runner up at State last year, but he came back with a 32-4 record and a State Championship in his senior season. The Lancers finished 2nd as a team at State this year.

At Barnes & Noble, senior Vedika Kumar participated in Blind Date with a Book. During this event, books are wrapped in paper with descriptive words that give a hint about the novel, and individuals are free to choose which one they want to buy.

After finishing their tests in history teacher Steve Klawiters class, students can participate in an optional trivia section. While Klawiter usually doesnt offer rewards for the highest score on the trivia section, it offers a way for students to decompress after unit tests.
History teacher provides de-stressing activities to students
Freshman Emi Limon competes in the 2022 World Kickboxing and Karate Union Championship in Wales. Even though Limon has only been doing karate for three years, he won four medals at the October competition— a gold medals in Weapons with Music and Korean Forms, a silver medal in Hardstyle Forms and a bronze medal in Weapons with no Music.

LHS students enjoy lunch in the Commons on May 23. The school provided lunches were free for the 2021-2022 school year, however, free lunch will be going away for the 2022-2023 school year. In addition, prices for lunches will be increasing in comparison to the pre-COVID-19 era.

Proposition P has been announced to be on the April Ballot for the Rockwood School District. Prop P will allow for Rockwood to have a dedicated source of funds that go towards cycle maintenance projects. These projects include replacing Chromebooks and repairing roofs.

Following the possibility of two seats opening in the Board of Education, five community members have become candidates for the seats, Including Jessica Clark, Izzy Imig, Charles Keith Messmer, Amy Ryan and Deborah Stine. The election will occur on April 5, 2022.

At the Freshman Orientation on Aug. 19, 2021, Class of of 2025 members were required to wear masks as they learned about the school. The mask mandate has been in place for a year since the return to school on Nov. 12, 2020, following the COVID-19 outbreak. There was a short break from the mandate in the summer of 2021 when infection numbers in the area dropped significantly.

The Individualized Learning Center (ILC) is located near the In School Suspension (ISS) room. The ILC program has been used by students in order to recover credits to allow them to graduate. Terry Harris plans to shift the focus of the ILC towards improving student mental health.

Cookies rise in the oven to be served fresh to students from the Lafayette Cookie Stand in 2019. Before the Cookie Stand closed that second semester, students were able to purchase two cookies for $1 throughout the school day. The Cookie Stand is set to reopen during the week of Sept. 20.
