Girls soccer prepares for upcoming season

With the season fast approaching, the varsity girls soccer team is ready to come out strong to start the new year. Last year, the team struggled with consistency and finished the campaign with a 11-10 record and were ousted in the first round of the District tournament by Marquette by a score of 1-0.

But this is a new season, with new faces and a boatload of talent. Senior Jessica Smith, who was a essential part of last year’s team, is ready to contribute, yet again, to a young team.

“This year I hope to really lead the team on and off the field,” Smith said. “I also hope to help the new players feel like they belong. We are one team so everyone should feel like they are making a difference or helping in some way.”

Due to streaky results last year, Smith pointed out some goals that the team is planning on sticking to in order to maintain a healthy season.

“This year our team really wants to play well together and bond,” Smith said. “We want to all get to know each other really well so that it will influence our playing as well as make the season very enjoyable.”

The team’s first game is set to begin at 6 p.m. at home against Hazelwood West on March 28.
