After a stunning shutout win over Ladue in the quarterfinals, the varsity girls field hockey team has improved its record to 20-1 overall as they return to the final four of the Midwest Field Hockey Tournament.
“After beating Ladue 6-0 we’re really pumped up about it. This is our year,” senior Kelsey Clayman said.
The team also made it the semifinal round of the tournament last season, but lost 2-0 to eventual State champion John Burroughs.
This year, however, they are backed by a much stronger offensive play.
They are led by junior Kate Barber, who currently leads the State in goals (23), assists (35), and scoring (81). The squad is also leading the Conference in goals scored, averaging 3.8 per contest as they’ve allowed an average of 0.5 goals scored against them.
They will play MICDS at MICDS on Nov. 3 at 3:30 p.m.
“It think we’re really gonna stick together and play like a team like we have been all season,” senior Monica Carron said, “We don’t want this to be our last game.”
