Senior Kurtis Harshman has been a standout on the boys bross bountry team for the 2010 season. He finished first among all Lafayette runners at each meet thus far.
However on Oct. 14, at the Patriot Classic in Castlewood State Park, Harshman earned something more than just a medal. With a time of 16:13.oo, Harshman earned National Elite Status.
“If you run (a 5K race) in under a 16:30.00, you are recognized as a National Elite,” Harshman said.
His 16:13.00 time was Harshmans personal best time, and a run this successful only sheds light on what success may come for Harshman in post-season.
“I hope we make it as a team to State, but if not then I hope to place hopefully in the top ten in state,” he said.
Such a tremendous accomplishment for Harshman this season has made him very proud.
Very humbly, he said, “It’s exciting. It was definitely a goal of mine.”
