As the first batter of the game, senior Michael Callahan hit a home run past center field to open the scoring in the Battle of 109.

Despite Callahan’s leadoff home run, Lafayette was unable to beat Eureka, as the game ended 7-4. The Lancers hosted the Wildcats in back-to-back games, April 8 – 9, as the two rivals each won a game.
In the first game of the series, a walk-off single RBI by junior Will Dunbar completed a comeback win for the Lancers. Lafayette had entered the bottom of the seventh inning down 5-2, before scoring four straight runs to win, 6-5.

Originally, Eureka was supposed to host the game on April 9, but due flooding issues, the game was moved to Lafayette High School.
The Lancer’s started the game strong, scoring four runs in the first two innings, but the Wildcats managed to keep up and capitalized on Lafayette errors, to take a 5-4 lead in the bottom of the third inning.
After that, Eureka took control, preventing Lafayette from scoring another run for the rest of the game.
Following the 7-4 loss, Lafayette (6-3) look to host a double-header vs De Smet (2-8), April 12.
