At the 2022 Madrigal Dinner, Class of 2022 Graduate Caleb Bolton performs as a part of the Royal Court. This dinner is an ongoing tradition occurring every other year during December. The next event will be in 2026.

Lancers triumph in Mayor’s Bowl over Mustangs

Lafayette beats rival Marquette 38-16, ends six year losing streak

The 8-1 Lancers faced the 4-4 Mustangs in the Mayor’s Bowl in both team’s regular season finale. Marquette came into the game having won their last six games versus Lafayette, but the Lancers ended this run with a 38-16 win, Oct. 25.  

Lancers started the game slowly, being unable to contain Marquette’s run game. The Mustangs scored a rushing touchdown to make the score 7-0, at the end of the first quarter. 

But the game soon turned after senior quarterback Jack Behl threw a 39-yard touchdown pass to senior wide receiver Robby Preckel to make the score 10-7, with Marquette still ahead. The Lancers took over after this play, scoring 14 unanswered points to make it 21-10, late in the third quarter. 

 

Marquette would score a touchdown, but failed to convert the 2-point conversion. The Lafayette offense continued to dominate, scoring 17 more points by the end of the game. 

 

Behl threw for 338 yards and 3 passing touchdowns, while Preckel had 128 total yards and a touchdown. 

 

Junior wide receiver Terance Bills had 140 total yards and two touchdowns. The Lancer secondary held the Mustangs to just 122 passing yards on 17 attempts. Senior defensive back Drew Austermann also got an interception. 

 

Lafayette ends the regular season with a 9-1 record as they look to face Parkway Central at home in their first playoff game, Nov. 1. The two teams have already played this season, with the Lancers winning, 58-0.
