Boys Cross Country
In the Fort Zumwalt Twilight Invitational on Aug. 28, senior Nikolas Malek grabbed finished first individually with a time of 15:45:00 and the team placed second with a score of 110 points. The team’s next meet is the Forest Park Invitational on Sept. 11 and will be followed by the 25th Annual Ed White Festival of Races in Arnold, Missouri, hosted by Fox High School. The Festival of Races will be on Sept. 23- 24.

Girls Cross Country:
At the Twilight Invitational on Aug. 28, the Lady Lancers placed first. Junior Grace Tyson ran a time of 19:17.00 placing her the highest out of the team with second place individual finish. Their next meet will be the Forest Park Invitational on Sept. 11.

Field Hockey:
On Sept. 1, field hockey took victory against Rockwood Summit, 6-2. On Sept. 3, varsity also beat Nerinx Hall, 2-0, then they tied Assumption, 3-3. On Sept. 4, the Lady Lancers lost a close match, 0-1 to Divine Savoir Holy Angels, in the Gateway Classic Tournament. Lafayette’s leading player so far, senior Ana McClellan said, “We played hard and kept a positive mindset going through our games. Our game against Assumption was a game that I thought we all played to our capabilities and left it out on the field. That’s why I believe that we were able to come back and tie the game. I think coming out of the tournament we should be proud of ourselves and keep this mindset going as we go deeper into the season.” Currently, McClellan ranks second in the Conference standings, with seven points, four assists and 18 goals. The varsity field hockey team plays Cor Jesu Academy at LHS at 4 p.m. on Sept. 7.

Football:
On Aug. 27, Lafayette’s varsity football team kicked off its season on home turf against Timberland falling 24-13. The team faced Lindbergh Sept. 3, taking their second loss of the season, 26-6. Senior Jude Tenny scored their only touchdown. The Lancers take on Fox High School Sept. 10 at home.

Girls Golf:
Due to unforeseen weather conditions on Aug. 30, the girls golf team did not have the opportunity to face Parkway Central at the Four Seasons Country Club. However, the team was able to play Sept. 1 and beat Kirkwood 205-143 at the Forest Hills Golf Course. Senior Caroline Boyette finished the match one under par with with 30 strokes making her the team’s first medalist. The team faces Ladue next at the Ballwin Golf Course on Sept. 8.

Boys Soccer:
In the Lafayette Round Robin Tournament from Aug. 27 through Sept. 3, boys varsity soccer took second place after beating Wentzville Holt 3-0. Senior captain Kaden Karr scored two of the three goals, with the other scored by junior Wes Jennings. This season, Karr has scored three goals and had one assist. Head Coach Ryan Butchart said, “We were struggling in the first half in terms of putting the ball in the back of the net. We had a good halftime team talk. [I] talked to a lot of the older guys about finishing at this varsity level. [After that] they really just turned it on, we scored three beautiful goals. Karr led by example and the boys had a great second half.” Although they came in second in the tournament, the team beat De Smet for the first time since 2003. “I think that speaks volumes for itself, that should motivate everyone that’s involved with this program. A win like that kick started something. I think there’s a lot of special things coming if this team stays focused,” Butchart said. This week, the team plays Webster Groves away on Sept. 7, Parkway South at home on Sept. 8 at 4:30 p.m. and Francis Howell at home on Sept. 9 at 6 p.m.

Girls Tennis:
On Sept. 1, varsity girls tennis won their first dual match of the season against Eureka, 7-2 at home. While the team won the match, freshman Madison Pfeiffer had the best score, 8-0, in singles. Coming up, the team will be facing St. Joseph’s Academy on Sept. 8 and Marquette on Sept. 9 on the Lafayette tennis courts. Varsity player sophomore Sonali Mehta, said, “For this week we are trying to be more aggressive when up at the net in doubles, because our team is overall quite strong at the net. Also, sometimes other opponents do worse when we move forward, so it is good for us to try and take every ball as a volley, if we can, to put a ball away quickly.”

Girls Volleyball:
This past weekend, girls volleyball competed in the Collierville, Tennessee tournament and finished as team champions. They dominated the #5 ranked team in Tennessee, 5-1. “Tennessee was a great way for me to build deeper connections with my teammates and coaches. It was less about the wins and more about the chemistry we created that weekend, but winning the tournament was an added bonus,” senior Liz Katz said.
