Annual Mother/Son Brunch, Father/Daughter Dance cap senior Memory Makers series
March 11, 2014
This past Saturday, March 8, Forest Hills Country Club hosted two of Lafayette’s annual senior events: the Mother / Son Brunch that morning and Father / Daughter Dance in the evening.
Parents organize and put these events together, with the help of the Senior Class Directors.
Two parents who played a prominent role in organizing these events were Teresa Jentilucci and Tina Roccia.
“The Mother/Son Brunch and the Father/Daughter Dance are the two spring events held as part of Senior Memory Maker festivities,” Jentilucci said.
The events were both held at the Forest Hills Country Club, and tickets were sold in order to pay for the costs of the event.
“The ticket prices of these events are purely to cover costs,” Jentilucci said.
The annual brunch and dance is exclusive to senior students and parents only.
“These events are held so that parent and their seniors spend some special time together before graduating,” Jentilucci said.
The Mother / Son brunch was kicked off with an introduction and a professional photographer taking complimentary pictures of son and mother pairs. The event continued with the brunch and a showing of a video of several pictures of mothers and sons as their sons grew up from a toddler to a young adult. Following the video, several seniors went on stage with a prepared speech for their mothers, ranging all over from lighthearted to much deeper topics. After the public speeches, each pair read private letters that the other had written previously to conclude the morning.
“It was definitely better than I expected it to be. It was a great opportunity to really honor our mothers for always being there for us,” senior Jakob Jozwiakowski said. “I’d say my favorite part of the event was seeing all of the baby pictures, it was cute to see how everyone had changed.”
The Father / Daughter dance was conducted in a similar manner. It started with a professional photographer taking pictures of the elegantly dressed father daughter pairs, followed by the dinner portion of the night. As the meal wrapped up, a showing of a similar video to that of the Mother / Son brunch was shown, displaying adorable images of the little girls with their fathers as well as a recent picture. Different than the Mother / Son brunch however was the portion of the night where MC Seniors Bobby Boxerman and Michael Wefelmeyer conducted a hilarious reading of “how well do you know your daughter” surveys filled out by each pair, poking fun at how far off the father’s answers about their daughters were. Senior Savannah King delivered a heartwarming speech directed at her father as well as the rest of the guests in the room, and the night continued on with father daughter pairs dancing like there was no tomorrow.
“I thought it was really funny when the sheets were read off about what the father answered about their daughter,” said Senior Lauren Hansen. “The dance portion was great too. I expected a bunch of slow dances, but I was pleasantly surprised that there was a really fun mix of music.”
