In the previous issue of the Image, we did a story about all of this year’s retiring teachers, and there was one teacher that was left out.

After working a total of 17 years at LHS, Deborah Beffa has decided to embark on a new chapter of her life–retirement.

Beffa is a speech language therapist. Prior to working at LHS, Beffa was a speech therapist for one year at Rockwood South Middle, and she spent three years teaching at a private school.

Though Beffa is looking forward to a relaxing retirement, there are many aspects of her job she will miss.

“I’ll miss working with teenagers and being around their positive energy. I’ll also miss the staff at Lafayette; It’s just such a wonderful school,” Beffa said.

During her retirement, Beffa plans to travel, substitute and spend time with her family.

She has three sons, all alumni of Lafayette. Two of them are surgeons and one is a chef.

“All three of my boys are out-of-state, so it’ll be nice to have time to travel and visit with them,” Beffa said.

In addition to bonding with her family, Beffa plans to possibly be a traveling speech therapist.

“Lafayette is a great school. I credit a lot of my sons’ successes to the education they receive here. I’ve had a wonderful career here, and I’m very lucky to have worked in such a great environment,” Beffa said.
