Disney aims high with new theme-park “Avatar Land,” to open in 2017
In 2009, “Avatar” was released as a movie that was the first of its kind. Now, Disney is planning to make the mystical land of Pandora come to life.
Ideas and blueprints have been released about Disney’s new themepark, “Avatar Land” (not the official name), that will be featured in an expansion of Walt Disney World’s Animal Kingdom. The idea is to make people feel like they are stepping off of Earth and onto the home of the Na’vi.
Director James Cameron is working alongside Walt Disney Imagineering to bring this dream to life.
Right now, the new park is going to include the floating mountains from the film and a walk through the nighttime-bioluminescent jungle with plants that are alive with sound and light.
This expansion of Animal Kingdom will be the largest since the opening of the park in 1998.
Along with the incredible expansion, this past July, Fox announced that the studio will release three sequels based on “Avatar” to come out in 2016, 2017 and 2018; conveniently in the midst of the park’s opening.
