Rockwood Reading Week is taking place from Feb. 27- March 2 and, according to the Rockwood School District website, the theme is “Find the Treasure in Books.”
“It’s a Rockwood tradition to have Reading Week during the time that Dr. Seuss’s birthday happens,” Nichole Ballard-Long, library media specialist, said. His birthday would be on Friday, March 3, and if he was still alive he would be turning 108 years old.
Schools across the district are creating events and activities to celebrate Reading Week, and Lafayette is no exception.
“We have a trivia question each day and we’re doing a QR tag treasure hunt in which you scan QR tags either with your phone or your computer screen that we have set up and it takes you to different places in the library,” Ballard-Long said.
The library will also be giving out Barnes and Noble giftcards along with other prizes for students who complete the QR treasure hunt.
“We’re also doing a video game tournament on Friday to get a different kind of clientele in [the library] and show people that we’re about more than just books,” Ballard-Long continued.
She encourages students to visit the library sometime during the week and participate in all activities to take advantage of Rockwood Reading Week.
