Out & About: Olympia Kebob House and Taverna
Olypmia Kebob House and Taverna is a Greek and Mediterranean restaurant located at 1543 McCausland Ave. in Richmond Heights, MO. They’ve been in business for 35 years, and claim to have the “best gyro in town.”
My dad’s side of the family is from Bulgaria and Macedonia, and my Baba, or my grandmother, is an immigrant from Bulgaria. Therefore, I grew up around home-cooked Mediterranean food, from stuffed peppers to dolmas to lamb, you name it.
Olympia is the most authentic Mediterranean restaurant I’ve ever had the opportunity to try. For me, this restaurant is a family favorite and we have been loyal customers since I was a child.
Nowadays, there’s plenty of “gyro shops” and such, especially in the Delmar Loop, at festivals, etc. Some are pretty decent, but nowhere near authentic.
From the warm and flavorful dolmas, ground beef and rice wrapped in grape leaves, to their tasty shish kebab platter, Olympia is worth a shot for great Mediterranean cuisine. Although nothing can truly compare to authentic, family-made food, Olympia definitely gives it a run for its money.
Olypmia caters to many different needs as well. They offer more westernized options, such as burgers and chicken tenders. They also have vegetarian options that lean more Mediterranean, such as spinach pita, but are also inclusive.
The restaurant takes reservations, walk-ins and provides take-out. They offer indoor and outdoor seating and are welcoming of large groups.
