Out and About: Plaza Frontenac Cinema takes less corporate approach to movie industry
The Plaza Frontenac Cinemais one of the hidden gems of St. Louis County. Located in the Plaza Frontenac mall on South Lindbergh in St. Louis, the theater specializes in screening independent and/or smaller movies.
Before each movie the projectionist introduces themselves to the audience, giving off a great personal touch. The Theater is relatively small, showing about four movies at a time. The individual theaters themselves are also generally smaller than most, which is why it is important to get to there a little bit earlier than usual. Some showings tend to sell out pretty quickly.
Even though the Theater shows films that would seem to be directed towards a “hip and young” audience, the moviegoers are surprisingly an older demographic, so don’t be surprised if you are the youngest person in attendance.
The concession stand offers the usual popcorn, candy and soda, but also sells coffee and even gelato.
Frontenac is a great place to see lower profile, independently made “indie” movies for a decent price.
