STUCO Blood Drive falls just short of 150 pint goal

Last Friday, Jan. 26, our school and the American Red Cross held the annual blood drive sponsored by Lafayette Student Council (STUCO).

STUCO’s goal was originally to have 150 people donate to the drive, but only 150 signed up and some had to pass on the donations because of personal and health reasons.

Students came from 7:15 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. to donate blood. Red Cross nurses drew every donors blood. During the drive, STUCO members walked around either donating blood or caring for those who had already donated. After students were finished donating they were given refreshments to recover.

“Being able to give back to the community like this is so special and important to the Student Council. Philanthropy is one of our core values, so it is really cool that as a student body we can make such a big difference!” senior Hanna-Kate Hartshorn said.

Hartshorn has donated blood the past two years.

“I was unable to do it this year because of a recent ear piercing. We had some members of the Lafayette community come to donate,” Hartshorn added.

Assistant Principal Timothy Jones and language arts teacher Paul Jaycox were two of the many faculty members that participated alongside students.
