Irvin leaving Lafayette for new position at Webster Groves High School

Associate Principal Matt Irvin will be leaving LHS after just one year in his position.

“Leaving Lafayette has nothing to do with the school or school environment, but for a new professional job opportunity to go to another school,” Irvin said.

Irvin will be moving to Webster Groves High School, to take the current head principal’s position.

“I expect to be doing a lot of listening and learning to the adults and students in the building,” Irvin said. “I’m excited to be in a place similar to Lafayette, as [Webster] is responsive to learners.”

Irvin will be looking forward to filling the habitual needs of Webster Groves as well as helping them to grow and improve as a school.

“Seeking improvement is a common thread for schools,” Irvin said.

“[Changing schools] has been a process, but a recent one. Webster Groves has been very deliberate, as have I.” Irvin said, “Just as schools have to be when choosing people in leadership positions, and I think we’re appropriately judicious in their process, but the decision was very very recent.”
The unique talent of the administration here at Lafayette, the district leadership, nationally recognized professionals teaching here, and the students will all be missed Irvin said.

“I know that Lafayette will continue to move on after me without any issues,” Irvin added.

The switch from Lafayette to Webster Groves is going to continue to be a process and will be ongoing while adapting to a new environment at Webster Groves next year, as well as having Webster Groves adapt to having a new administration Irvin said.

Before coming to Lafayette, Irvin was as assistant principal at Lindbergh High School. He has also worked as Kirkwood High School, MICDS and at a large district in Illinois.
