Lafayette’s Lancer Regiment killed it in two of their shows this year, placing first at Francis Howell North for Music in Motion and the Francis Howell Invitational. The group finished second at their show in Farmington. At the Tulsa Union Renegade Review in Tulsa, Oklahoma, the Lancer Regiment finished 10th in finals. Competing with some of the top bands in the midwest and the nation, Lafayette’s marching band faced off with groups from six states in the midwest area.

The show was titled “Superstitious” and it was based around the idea of bad luck superstitions – walking under ladders, broken mirrors, stepping on a crack, and black cats.

Many members played outstanding solos such as Mel Northem on trumpet, Grace Kirtley on mellophone, Elly Levy on trombone, and Alex Zibits on tuba. Mel Northem was also featured on the flugelhorn and trumpet during the ballad.

The Lancer Regiment was one of a kind this year. They were ‘outstanding’ as Mr. Brad Balog described them, referring to the start of rehearsals in July through the final part of the season.

“The members of the Lancer Regiment came to every rehearsal ready to improve both individually and as an ensemble,” Balog said.

All of the Lafayette Lancers are very proud of such an awesome group and are looking forward to everything they’ve got for Lafayette next season.
