The Lafayette boys varsity basketball team beat their rival, the Eureka Wildcats, 52-36 on Jan. 22 to boost their record to 10-4.

The Lancers came out of the gates firing. They scored 18 points in the first quarter, compared to Eureka’s 10 points, and never looked back.

Lafayette hit eight three-pointers in the game while Eureka was only able to rack up four three-pointers. The Lancers also dominated down low with a total of 24 rebounds and four blocks.

“In the first half and throughout the game we really just shared the ball really well,” Forward Luke Finley said. “We got good stops on defense and that turned into easy offense.”

Finley scored 11 points in the game, the only Lancer to score in double-digits, and also led the team in rebounds with seven.

“It’s a great win, it’s a conference game so that’s always big and it was Andy Keithley night so it was really good to get a win in front of the whole school and for Andy,” Finley said.

With the win over Eureka, Lafayette is now 4-0 in conference play and they sit at the top of the Suburban West Conference standings.

The Lancers next game will be against Parkway Central (10-4) at Parkway West on Jan. 25 starting at 8:30 p.m.
