Girls volleyball set to control destiny this season
August 20, 2016
After winning their fifth straight State title, the Lafayette girls varsity volleyball team has become a force to be reckoned with. The team has combined for a record of 160-20-9 over the past five seasons and isn’t showing any signs of slowing down.
“We know there is a target on our back, but the girls realize that this year is a brand new team with new players and personalities,” Head Coach Zach Young said. “While the past five years have been amazing and something to be proud of, this team has to make it’s own destiny.”
The team lost a handful of seniors last year, but with some new additions to the team, players with varsity experience and an experienced coaching staff, the Lady Lancers are looking to start the year off right.
“The girls have really blended early on this season and are playing at a very high level early on in the season. I attribute much of that to the team’s unselfishness, leadership and good work ethic. This team will be fun to watch this season and we hope to get a lot of fans in the stands!” Young said.
Young also mentioned multiple key dates for the season this year. On Sept. 8, Lafayette will take on rival Eureka at home and be supporting teammate Ala Blaszcyk in fight against cancer. Also, on Oct. 15, the team will face Marquette at home and raise money for breast cancer.
Be sure to go out and support the team when they play their first game at St. Joseph’s on Aug. 23 starting at 4:30 p.m.
