With only two games left in the 2015-2016 season, the Lancer boys basketball team is starting to gear up for the District tournament.

The host of the tournament is Marquette high school so Lafayette’s, as well as all other team’s, games will be played at Marquette. The tournament is set to start on Feb. 27 when Eureka takes on Washington and the winner of that game will face Lafayette on March 1 at 7 p.m. Parkway Central and Marquette will also be in the tournament and they will face each other before Lafayette takes on Eureka or Washington at 5:30 p.m. on March 1.

The Lancers have a one seed in the tournament thanks to their 18-6 record thus far, but that is subject to change because they still have two games left in the regular season. One against Webster Groves at home on Feb. 23 starting at 7 p.m. and another against McCluer at McCluer on Feb. 25 starting at 7 p.m.

Lafayette will need to build momentum off of these last couple games to give them a boost into the District tournament, but head coach Scott Allen is just treating these last few games like any other contest.

“We preach the importance of every game so when you get to the end of season you’re ready,” Allen said. “This week’s games are very important like all of them we’ve played.”

Last year, the Lancers won the District tournament when they beat Parkway Central 43-40. With that victory, it earned them a spot in the State tournament, but Lafayette was knocked out in the first round when they lost to Chaminade 72-40. But this year Lafayette has an entirely different team, things could turn out differently.

“Our seniors understand that this time of year it doesn’t matter your seed. We’ve got to worry about ourselves and each guy has to play to their capability,” Allen said.

Lafayette will look to win their third straight District championship this year and have another shot at a State title run. Although a daunting task, the team is prepared for their competition. Be sure to keep up with the team as they take another shot at another District championship and even possibly a State title.
