LHS Shirt Co. opens for business
March 27, 2014
Over the next few weeks, students from the Business Management class will be selling shirts and tank tops as a part of the “LHS Shirt Co.” Sales began March 27, and will end April 10.
Items sold will include men’s and women’s tee shirts for $12, and tank tops for $10. The students designed both shirts differently, to cater to their audience. Junior Noah Baez, Business Management student, described the process of creating each design.
“I helped draw some of the primary designs, which we then took and put in Photoshop,” Baez said. “From there, we made it more refined. We had a lot of great artists, and it made getting everything together a lot more easy. Originally we were going to go for something a lot more complex, but instead decided to go with something more simple, and came up with the shirts with the ‘L’ on them.”
The LHS Shirt Co. is made up of the students in Betsy Rivas, businesses teacher’s, Business Management class. The class is designed to teach students about how to create and run a business, as well as how to make, market, and sell a product.
“We’re selling the shirts to try and gain experience with the business world, and learn about making sales, making connections and learning to go out and sell a product,” Baez said.
The company will be using the majority of the money raised to pay off the cost of manufacturing the shirts, but any profit made will be redistributed to the students who helped make and sell the products.
“The students will have an opportunity to get a paycheck based off of a commission system that the students set up themselves,” Rivas said.
Shirt sales will continue until April 10, and are predicted to arrive April 20. For any further information, follow LHS Shirt Co. on twitter at “@lhs_shirts,” or ask a salesman during lunch on the stage.
