The “Bash For Cash” benefit concert for Project Sunshine was held this Saturday in the Commons to raise money to fight childhood cancer.
The night raised over $1,000 for the organization through ticket purchases and raffle ticket sales. The raffle included donated items from alternative rock bands and local radio stations.
Junior Marissa Passi was one of the students who planned the event.
She said, “It was honestly a nice surprise to see so many people turn out. I mean, planning this event wasn’t something any of us [juniors Jared Appelbaum, Jessica Foley, Kelsey Haberberger and Passi] had ever done before, so to get such a response from both Lafayette and others in the area was just awesome.”
Passi said over 150 people were in attendance. One of the performers, Clayton Jones, also donated half of his album sales from the night to Project Sunshine.
The setting of the concert was casual and gave the attendees a unique concert experience, sophomore performer Jean-Luc Panchot said.
Panchot said, “The atmosphere was very coffee-house like; most of the audience was having a conversation with their friends while great music played in the background.”
Passi said she feels fortunate for all the local performers and the help that she and the other planners received.
“We were so fortunate to have such talents musicians and volunteers help us out. It was such a great night thanks to them,” Passi said.
