The 2010-2011 Freshman Mentors will meet the incoming freshmen for Freshmen Orientation this Thursday, August 12.
Starting at 11 a.m. the new freshmen will be greeted in the Commons and then led to the Gym for an Opening Assembly. During the assembly, Assistant Principal Mandy Lewis and Principal John Shaughnessy will address the Class of 2014.
The incoming freshmen will also have a chance to see their guidance counselors and other grade level principals during the assembly. At 10:45 a.m., they will be introduced to their mentors in groups of 10 students.
The Mentor Groups will participate in personal introductions, team building activities and will also learn about the purpose of their Mentor Group.
From 12:25 to 2:05 p.m. freshmen will begin four different small group rotations including a tour of the school, a pizza lunch in the Commons, an activities fair in the Back Gym and Registration.
After completing the four rotations, all freshmen will be able walk through their schedule and meet their teachers from 2:15 to 3:25 p.m.
To end Orientation, all the freshmen and Mentors will come back together in the Gym for a closing assembly for 3:25 to 3:35 p.m.
The Freshman Mentors will also be participating in other activities with their groups through the year. These activities include a Freshman Tailgate on Sept.3 for Lafayette’s first home football game as well as a Ronald McDonald House Charity Drive in November.
The Freshman Mentors will also be setting up chats and study sessions with their groups on an individual basis.
