The Lancer boys basketball season ended as they were defeated by the Parkway South Patriots 57-50 for the District title.
The teams played in front of packed bleachers at Eureka High School as both schools brought students to help cheer their teams on.
Senior Mike Messer finished off his high school career on a high note scoring a game high 25 points. He will continue his basketball career at Division I Southern Illinois University-Edwardsville.
The Patriots came out with a consistent scoring effort with three players scoring at least 13 points.
Lafayette’s loss ended its seven game win streak and a chance to repeat as District champions.
The game was controlled on the defensive end by the Patriots holding the paint and limiting Lafayette’s power forwards. Junior Aareon Smith and sophomore Luke Kreienkamp combined for six points.
