As the sun set over Hazelwood Central High School, Lafayette’s senior quarterback Jack Behl delivered a pass on 2nd and 6, finding junior wide receiver Brady Micek mid-stride.
Micek then dodged a defender’s oncoming tackle forcing four players to collide in a scramble. Breaking free, he sprinted 39 yards to the end zone, extending the Lancers’ commanding lead to 35-0, late in the 2nd quarter.

This was Behl’s fourth passing touchdown as the Lafayette Lancers defeat the Hazelwood Hawks 35-0, Friday Sept. 6, in their second game of the season.
Both of the Hawks’ quarterbacks missed the game due to injury, because of this, the Hawks had a slow start to the game. In their opening drive, they received two penalties resulting in a loss of 10 yards, and also a fumbled ball, which Lafayette recovered. The Lancers recovered the ball on the Hawks 7 yard line, and would score their first touchdown of the game, making the score 7-0, Lafayette, before the Hawks gained a single yard.
The slow offensive play by the Hawks and Lafayette defense prevented Hazelwood from scoring a single point. The shutout by the Lancers means that they have only conceded 7 points across their opening two games.
All five of Lafayette’s touchdowns came in the first half as Behl went 11/14 with 109 passing yards, and 20 rushing yards.
“Obviously the score was pretty good, we came out there in the first half and put up 35 points, and it kind of stayed that way,” Behl said.
Senior Robby Preckel had 28 receiving yards with three touchdowns, and Micek received for 38 yards and one touchdown. Senior running back Devon Reese also rushed for 51 yards, while senior Alex Behl had one receiving touchdown.
