On Feb. 8, the team faces off at home against the Parkway Central Colts at 6 p.m.
Hockey
The Lancers started their chase for the Wickenheiser Cup this week with two games in a Round Robin of three. In their first game against Lindbergh, Lafayette won, 7-3; in their other game against Edwardsville, the team won again, 2-1. Previously, the Lancers won the Wickenheiser Cup in the 2018-2019 season, and for senior Nathaniel Orf, being able to still compete for the Wickenheiser Cup after a 3-11-3 record this season means the world. “We approached [the postseason] with open minds knowing who was up against, therefore my goal as a senior was to provide Lafayette with the feeling of pride I experienced in the 2018-2019 Wickenheiser championship game,” he said. Winning the first two games for Orf and the team has been monumental in their confidence, and Orf can’t wait to see what the Lancers produce in the rest of the postseason. “[The first game] felt amazing to finally be rewarded for the hard work we have been putting in all year. The second win felt even better knowing we secured ourselves in the second round,” Orf said. “I’m just excited to be back on the ice with the team and play. In the upcoming game we are going to try and focus on playing all the way through the game because keeping up the momentum is important. Playoffs are definitely the spotlight we’ve been preparing for and finally getting there after such a rough season gave the team a boost of confidence going into it.” On Feb. 7, the Lancers beat the Rockwood Summit Falcons by a score of 3-1.
