Girls track and field wins District championship, boys baseball prepares for District quarterfinals

Weekly Sports Update May 9-May 15

Junior Sam Williams pitches against Eureka May 4. Williams pitched a complete game and the Lancers outhit Eureka with 10 hits compared to six hits. The Lancers ended the regular season with a record of 14-15.

Staff

Baseball

The Lancers took on Francis Howell Central on May 9 and lost, 11-5. Junior Jackson Weidner had two RBIs during the game, junior Aiden Bray hit a home run. The Lancers then took on Chaminade May 10 and lost a close game, 3-1. Junior PJ Rogan drove in the lone Lancer run during the game. Finally, the Lancers faced off against Parkway South May 11 and lost, 10-5. Senior Zack Hoffman drove in all five Lancer runs during the game. The Lancers next take on Marquette for a quarterfinal game in the MSHSAA Class 6, District 2 Tournament May 16 in a home game at 4:30 p.m. The Lancers are the number four seed in the tournament.

Girls Lacrosse

On May 9, the Lancers edged out Eureka, 8-7. Junior Natalie Tomljenovic scored three goals during the game. The Lady Lancers then faced John Burroughs May 11 in another away game and narrowly lost, 9-8. The Lady Lancers are heading into the playoffs this week with their first postseason game May 21, though it is not yet decided who they will be playing against. After a strong regular season, the team is heading into the playoffs with an overall regular season record of 12-6.

Boys Lacrosse

Starting middle of the week May 15, the Lancers took on the SLUH Jr. Billikens, losing, 15-6 and ending the Lancers’ season. At the end of the season, the Lancers have a 7-9 season record.

Boys Golf

The Lancers finished fourth place overall as a team in the MSHSAA District Tournament with a score of 309 strokes. Senior Tripp Sanfelippo finished in fourth place individually and senior Kyle Rinkenberger finished in sixth place individually, qualifying to compete at the MSHSAA State Championships in Cape Girardeau May 16-17.

Girls Soccer

The Lancers had another strong week this week, facing Marquette, Webster Groves and Francis Howell. While facing Marquette May 9, the Lancers dominated with a 4-0 shutout win. The goals were scored by seniors Rylee Howard and Anya Shawke as well as sophomore Emily Derucki. Senior Mikayla Morales also came in with an assist. The Lancers continued to dominate when facing Webster Groves, winning, 3-1 May 10, as Howard, Derucki and sophomore Allie Kinner all scored goals and and junior Kennedy Bryce had an assist. The Lancers faced Francis Howell May 12 and received their first tie of the season, 1-1. The Lancers have also been strongly supported by the goalies, seniors Grace Heppe and Sadie Wolf. In their last week of the season, the Lancers will face Parkway South May 16 at home in the quarterfinals of the Class 4, District 2 Tournament. The Lancers won Districts in 2021 and look to repeat as District champions in 2022. The Lancers are the number two seed in the District Tournament.

Girls Track and Field

The Lancers participated in the MSHSAA Class 5, District 5 Meet May 14. The Lancers finished in first place, winning a District championship with a score of 160.5 points. The Lancers last won a District championship in 2019. In the 100-meter dash, senior Paige Halter finished in first place. In the 200-meter dash, senior Jordan Moulton finished in sixth place and fellow senior Erica Shelton finished in eighth place. In the 400-meter run, freshman Avery Brown finished in first place and junior Faith Halter finished in fifth. In the 800-meter run, freshman Lauren Pauls finished in second and fellow freshman Lila Dantuono finished in fifth. In the 1600-meter run, junior Grace Tyson finished in first and junior Elissa Barnard finished in second. In the 3200-meter run, junior Grace Tyson finished in first, junior Elissa Barnard finished in second and sophomore Natalie Barnard finished in third. In the 4×100-meter relay, the Lancers finished in third. In the 4×200-meter relay, the Lancers finished in fifth. In the girls 4×400-meter relay, the Lancers finished in second. In the 4×800-meter relay, the Lancers finished in first place with a time of 9:37.12. In the pole vault event, senior Grace Rigabar finished in second and freshman Lily Vellines finished in third. In the triple jump event, freshman Maya Witherspoon finished in first and junior Caitlyn Little finished in third. In the javelin event, junior Emma Durfee finished in third place. All members of the team who finished in first, second or third place in their events qualified for the Sectional Meet in Waynesville May 21.

Boys Track and Field

The Lancers participated in the MSHSAA Class 5, District 5 Meet May 14. The Lancers finished in fourth place with a score of 110 points. In the 100-meter finals, senior Alexander Wildt finished in first place. In the 200-meter finals, Wildt finished in first place. In the 400-meter run, senior Malik Hampton finished in fifth place. In the 800-meter run, senior Bross Miller finished in fifth place. In the 1600-meter run, senior Nikolas Malek finished in second place. In the 3200-meter run, junior Lukas Groenewald finished in first place and sophomore Jack Robeson finished in second place. In the 110-meter hurdles, senior Euan Brodie finished in fifth place. In the 300-meter hurdles, freshman Santino Stith finished in fifth place. In the 4×100-meter relay, the Lancers finished in second place. In the boys 4×200-meter relay, the Lancers finished in third place. In the boys 4×400-meter relay, the Lancers finished in third place. In the 4×800-meter relay, the Lancers finished in first place with a time of 8:01.92. In the discus event, senior Landon Oelschlaeger finished in fifth place. All members of the team who finished in first, second and third place in their events qualified for the Sectional Meet in Waynesville May 21.

Boys Volleyball

The Lancers took on the Francis Howell Vikings May 11, sweeping them in three sets, with freshman Ethan Tran leading the team with three points. Later in the week, the team went up against the Francis Howell Central Spartans May 12, also sweeping them in four sets, with Tran again leading the team with three points. The Lancers host the Francis Howell Vikings May 16.
