Girls swimming and diving captures crown in Springfield, boys wrestling takes Conference title

Boys Basketball
Last week, the Lancers competed in the Circle 7 Showdown Tournament. Starting off the tournament on Jan. 24, the Lancers faced Liberty High School and won, 68-51. On Jan. 26, the Lancers went into the semifinal round of the tournament, facing Parkway West and losing 64-53. Junior Matt Haefner scored 14 points in the game. On Jan. 26, the Lancers lost against the Parkway West Longhorns, 64-53 and also lost in their next game on Jan. 28 to Hazelwood West, 56-37. The Lancers will face the Ritenour Huskies on Feb. 1 at Ritenour at 7 p.m. and will face the Ladue Rams on Feb. 4 at Ladue at 7 p.m.
Girls Basketball
On Jan. 25, the Lady Lancers lost a close game against the Pattonville Pirates, 44-43. On Jan. 28, the team went up against the Ladue Rams, beating them 41-34. Senior Ana McLellan led the team with 10 points. On Feb. 1, the team will play at home against the Warrenton Warriors at 5:30 p.m.
Hockey
The Lancers had two losses in their last week of regular season play. The first was against Kirkwood on Jan. 24. The only goal for the Lancers in the 2-1 loss was by senior Luke Carrico on a power play. Their second loss was on Jan. 27 against De Smet where the Lancers were shut out, 8-0. The final record for the regular season is 3-14-3, and are seeded fourth seed for the Mid States Hockey Club Association’s Wickenheiser Cup.
Girls Swimming and Diving
On Jan. 26, girls swimming and diving defeated Eureka, 118-68. Later in the week, the team traveled to Springfield, Missouri to compete in the Springfield Friday Night Fights where they placed first overall. Senior Dylan Moulton, junior Grace Tyson, sophomore Ellie Kipper and freshman Janna Moellenhoff placed first in the 200-meter medley relay. The 400-meter freestyle relay placed first with Moulton, Tyson, sophomore Megan Bilsland and Kipper. Several members of the team had individual victories as well. Junior Maggie Arceneaux placed first in diving and freshman Lucia Tenny in third. Moellenhoff went on to place third in the 200-meter individual medley as well as the 100-meter breaststroke. Additionally, Kipper placed first in the 500-meter freestyle, Moulton placed second in the 100-meter freestyle and Tyson placed third in the 100-meter butterfly. “It was a really amazing experience to get to see so many of us contribute to this victory and get to see so many personal bests,” Tenny said. The team will participate next in the Suburban Yellow Pool Conference Meet at Kirkwood High School on Feb. 1 at 4:30 p.m.
Boys Wrestling
On Jan. 28, the Lancers beat Northwest, 48-21, securing the Conference championship. The Lancers took fourth place at the highly competitive Francis Howell “Thrasher” Invitational on Jan. 29. Seniors Drew Doehring and Tommy Hagan were the champions of their weight classes. The team will face Francis Howell Central next at 5 p.m. at Lafayette on Feb. 2.
Girls Wrestling
The Lancers took on Northwest High School on Jan. 26, losing 54-30, finishing second place in the conference. On Jan. 29, the Lancers competed in the Francis Howell “Thrasher” Invitational, where they placed third overall. Junior Jayla Jones placed first in her division. “It’s such a good feeling knowing my work is paying off and the off-season training I did really has made a difference in my wrestling,” Jones said. Other medalists include seniors Seraphina Blackmon and Derriona Johnson and sophomore Toby Goertz in second, sophomore Maddie Johnson and freshman Hannah Henderson in third and sophomore McKenna Budnick in fourth. The team will be competing at the Girls Wrestling MSHSSA District Tournament Feb. 4-5.
